We moved to our present home 2 1/2 years ago and we were lucky enough to have a totally blank canvas to start on. I dug up and potted up over 300 pots of plants as the new owners of our previous house were anything but gardeners and wanted to tarmac over the garden and make a new drive way >:( Wasnt going to leave any of my babies there. So here are the photos of our garden with in a few days of moving in.

And.........I must not forget that O.H made a huge contribution too. ;)

The garden is very windy and one of the first things that we did was to erect some wind netting all around. As the garden is becoming more established now we have taken this down.
So do you have any photos of your garden over a space of time?????
Wow Mimi, that is a truly outstanding difference to have made in just 2 years!! You must be very proud of your efforts....and so you should be!!
The border behind the pond looks very vibrant and I bet it's a haven for birds & wildlife! What happened to the BBQ?..lol
Your OH also deserves a big pat on the back as the pergola is as big as a Band Stand and must be a great place to sit on a summer's eve and survey your handywork! Well done to you both!
TimJ
Fantastic!
What a difference :o that is soo nice, I would imagine the wind break works well too, what a great idea, I do envy peeps with large gardens :'( ;D
Worked wonders isnit?
You've seen our before and afters I think.
For all those out there just starting, it really is worth phototgraphing what you had and what you do, you never remember what it was really like. And it does give you something to do on cold dark Winter's nights.
Wow, that looks fantastic! All that we've really changed in our garden is the number of pots grows each year as its mostly concrete and we added a play house for the girls. I'm so looking forward to our next house with a big garden! Your pics are a real inspiration as to what can be done in such a short time with a bit of hard graft.
Thanks Mimi, made me get out the old photos and look at how this place was before we began.

The first is not brilliant as it was taken with a very cheap (free even) camera and then scanned into the computer.
The difference between the two shots is about 7 years and the first would be Winter and the second July.
Wow that looks amazing. How long did all that take?
Tim, the border at the back is in fact two borders disected by a windy path. Its not a great photo but its the only one I have.... taken last spring.

sorry about all the shadow from 'The Bandstand' ;D but you can just make out the path. Would love to have it paved with cobbles and various bits and peices but that is a job for another day ;)
Mimi - OMG that's amazing! It looks beautiful! And only two years. You are one clever lady!
It looks like a lovely big size too.
both of you your gardens are somethong you must be soooo proud of! i wish i had that sort of garden to work with!
Jemma
if anyone is interested I could scan in some v early pics of my garden, together with some recent ones of the same veiw for comparison. You'd be amazed at the difference in something like 10 years (3 years neglect then 7 of hard work transforming it!).
Is there anyone else with some 'before' and 'after' pics of their garden? I love seeing those sort of photos.
Mimi - only just seen your wondrous effort.
Must just say that the WINDBREAK you show is something that every veg gardener should use. Huge improvement in growth. Ours is 45 years old & still fine.
Guess where this is?

This was what we had when we started, taken in November 1995 after we moved in the October. When the weather improves I shall see if I can take another one from the same spot, but I have a feeling that the house is no longer visible from there. "If it wasn't for the gasworks in between"?
??? I can't see it Eric ???
Sorry,Roy, wrong bracket. Fixed now!
;D Thats better, I think I would have put livestock in there for a month or two to have a good graze ;D
Awaiting the update piccy ;) ;D
Palustris, do you have a picture of all the plants you moved from the old house? I promised at the time that if you ever moved again I would pay for someone else to do it.
It is inspiring to see these - so easy to forget just how much work you have both put in to achieve these results.
Beautiful gardens ! Makes me wish I had a larger one!
