Anyone tried it or would I just waste my strawbs?
For me, personally, it would be a waste. I buy ready made supermarket flan cases for soft fruit. Lovely with a dollop of cream!

Perhaps OK if you have an absolute glut of strawberries but they are nicer fresh.
Our surplus is made into jam or cooked and frozen.... if there are any left after the family have had a share!!
I accidentally discovered two years ago that although frozen strawberries are rather disappointing, if you cover them in sugar and then freeze them they make an excellent fresh tasting sauce for icecream. Yes, they are sugary, but that is what is wanted occasionally.
Daughter had an enormous glut, pleaded with me to take them away in bucketfuls - unable to deal with them immediately I poured sugar over them - later in a hurry decided to freeze them - thawed out some time later and was surprised at how fresh and tasty they were, and popular with all.
Mum fed us on strawberry flans Gordon so my vote would be to make one O them, dead easy.

Flan sounds nice actually. Well, if any of them make it that far, anyway.
It was just a mad idea I had. Probably too much cider at the time :-[
Thank you for warning me off! ;D
Gooseberry and strawberry crumble is fantastic and regular in my house for breakfast, dinner and tea. Probably wouldn't try strawberry on its own though.
We are not too keen on fresh strawberries so I freeze them then cook them sweeten and thicken a little and we have them with plain yoghurt. Tones favourite
When there's more than we can eat fresh (and jam-making is going to take too long) we plonk ours in a little sugar in a sealed container and leave them in the fridge.
The juice that develops overnight means the strawberries keep longer and can be used in a range of puddings if someone hasn't come along and eaten many of them in the meantime ;)
Just love them!!! :)
We love strawberry crumble! When I can get them, I always open freeze small strawberries, bag them up, and bring them up during the winter to make crumble. They produce a nice lot of juice, and it is so tasty. Do try it.
