Title: Piebald potatoes?
Post by: artichoke on June 11, 2012, 08:45:42
I was recently given a bag of supermarket potatoes, very striking in appearance, with no name attached.

They are hens egg size, basically red like Desiree, but every eye has a pale yellow/white kidney shaped patch around it.

Does anyone know what this is? The flavour is of a good new potato. I am thinking of putting a few into the ground to see what happens.

I have to say, looking at Google images for "Apache" that they look absolutely identical!

I think I have a few planted if they have survived the waterlogging  :(

I tried growing Smile once.... they weren't very productive under conditions that other potatoes seemed to thrive in....

We grew some last year that were marked like orca beans, half blacky/blue and half white, they were really odd.  XX Jeannine
