Title: Wind and more wind !!!
Post by: fitzsie on June 08, 2012, 17:01:45
Didn't expect this much wind today !!  My veg garden has taken a right battering. My potatoes are completely flatten and some of the stalks have even snapped. Will this affect the potatoes in the ground?
Anyone else with problems ?

Very windy here too.  There are so many leaves on the ground it is more like autumn.    The wind whips through the lottie.

Just been to look and things not as bad as I had feared.  Some of the bottle cloches had blown off the sweet corn.  Some of the pea and bean support canes are all over the place and the broadbeans are at 45 deg.  Quite a few potatoes are lying down, but luckily none broken off.  Hopefully I can earth them up and put them back vertical.   Quite a lot of peas are also lying down, hopefully they will be ok once I tie them up again.  Still very windy so no point in doing it until tomorrow.  Also lost a few leaves on the pumpkins and courgettes.

Sadly I lost 3 branches from my 2 year old Victoria Plum tree. A great shame as it has some fruit on it for the first time.

Hi Number six I lost half my 3 year old red currant bush to the ravages of dreadful winds - gutted as loads of unripe fruit on the parts that snapped off. It had been well supported etc but the support sticks snapped too :o x Jane
