Title: Poultry life has gone bonkers..
Post by: goodlife on June 07, 2012, 07:21:56
About week now I've been laughing in my bed listening some desperate cockadoodledo attempts of one my nearby neighbours cockerel. Normally it does is it lough and clear and announce itself to whole street.. ;D...lovely to hear, though not all neighbours agree about it.
Yesterday I just happened to bump into the chap who has the bird and I asked what's wrong with the cockerel lately as it doesn't sound 'right'.  "Nothing is wrong with him..he is 'gone away', so the odd noises are not coming from us".
Ah..somebody in allotments must have 'sneaky' one then..I must go and investigate as we are not allowed to have any cockerels, only chickens on a plot.
Been walking about and found nothing..all 'chickens' on the plots are as they should... ???

This morning I was woken up this mystery phantom cockadoodledo..not very loud, nor it was very talented attempt, but clearly recognizable for what it is trying to 'be'....AND it came from one my own b***y girls!!!! :o :o.
Normally when they get ready to be let out of shed they do get bit 'stroppy' if I'm late and give me some rattled noises..but cockadoodledo?.. ::)..that is a bit over the top.. ::) They really don't fail to amuse me.. ::)

I've heard of and read about chickens that 'turn into' cockerels and I do wish that doesn't happen to one of mine..so far they are all laying and looking how they should so fingers crossed that is all that one girl is able to do.. :-X

Has anybody's else chickens done odd noises before?

Does she still lay normally? Has she tried to go any "further" with the attempt being 'boy'..?

I was jsut going to say our Bluebelle  used to cockadoodle too. this was as she got older, she never laid many egss anyway, but it was even less by then. I suppose it is a bit like us with male and female hormones, and the ratio changes as they get older.

We only had a small flock a three girls. The top bossy chook did often try a cockadodle, but can only manage the first few notes.

I think her hormones were a bit feisty as she was top chook. We now only have her left and she still does the odd attempt at crowing.
