Title: Problem with gooseberry bush
Post by: kippers garden on June 01, 2012, 20:56:03
A few weeks ago I pruned out a branch from my gooseberry bush that was dead.  Last week the leaves on two branches next to the original dead branch curled and looked like the bush was short of water, but just on these two branches.  I wasn't sure what was causing it but I thought it best to again prune out these two branches.  Today I notice another branch ladened with gooseberries is doing the same thing.

There is no sign of gooseberry sawfly and no sign of mildew, just curled up leaves....has anyone got any idea what it could be or what to do to save the plant or should I dig the whole bush up and burn it (unfortunately it is near other gooseberry bushes and currant bushes).

Thanks for any replies

Without seeing its hard to diagnose but it sounds like dieback a lavea bores up the middle of the branch.
Search the below there is a very good PDFfile on fruit bushes you may find the problem there
