Title: Sad looking Cherry Tree
Post by: cornykev on June 01, 2012, 05:37:13
Hi, I was given a cherry tree by one of the girls on the lottie and took quite well and has some green berrys on it but just lately I've noticed that the leaves are not looking very healthy and seem to be covered in black fly, can I spray or will it affect the berrys and can I give it a boost with some sort of feed, its about 4 foot high.    :-\

Ant bait stations might be your friend..,. my sweet cherry had a blackfly problem and it was distorting th enew growth etc ... bait stations and a small amount of ant powder around the base of the stem got rid of the ants adn the ladybirds have cleared off most of the blackfly adn now it's growing away happily again.... Blackfly infestation generally equals ants in my book....

We put thick vaseline in a band around the trunk to stop the ants and spray with a garlic spray, as chriscross says, it's the ants wot done it  ;D
