I went to the plot on Monday morning to water as I was away for the weekend and found out the committee is inspecting/judging for best plot on Saturday... Eeeeeks... needed to get everything top top and weeded etc.. I didn't know this competition existed!!
So I took the last 3 afternoons off (the joys of working from home) and got stuck in.. Weeded, prepared more beds, planted lettuce, tomatoes, leeks, cabbage, gemsquash and baby corn. Also wood-chipped the berry bushes and removed loads of marestail.. Weeded all the beds and watered the whole plot. Even washed the pathways.
Been a huge rushed job but now is ready.. BTW i'm not into winning the trophy but it would be good.. Take a look at the plot at my blogsite.. www.gavinconway.net
Now my back aches..

Tut, that hosepipe looks a tad untidy ;D
A lovely looking plot and here's wishing you well .
Ninny :)
What a difference you have made to the plot :) Good luck.
Fancy a bit of work on the side ;D. Looks good
Very nice!
You have your best plot judging very early in the season - or is ours (in July) late?
Looks very tidy well done.
How odd that they are judging so early.
good luck

Wow! What a lot of hard work done there, well done you, and well done Duncan too. Hope you do well in the competition, surely you will steal "Best Newcomer" at least?
I'd say yes to best plot and best newcomer!
even if i took a month off my plot would never look like that!
Well done.
Thanks for all the comments.. I have really enjoyed getting the mess sorted out and the digging... Now to enjoy weeding and eating my range of veg!!
i have enjoyed looking at your photos from start to finish, i hope you do well in the competition, please let us know how you get on.GOOD LUCK
Great blog - loved looking at the pics. You've obviously put loads of hard work in - good luck and thanks for sharing.
Enjoyed looking at your photos and good luck with the competition.
all your hard work as paid off, your plot looks lovely :)
Lots of hard work, looking good.
Martin.
Gutted... :'( only got a 3rd... but the winner is my neighbour and all her veg is really growin well and looks good. She was lucky - got her planting done in a 2 week hot period before the cold spell.. But I'm not bothered as I'm not in it for the trophy as I only found out 4 days before judging that the competition existed!!
You have done amazing with your plot, well done. A third place is brilliant ;D
Well done that man. :D
I am really pleased.. 3rd is really good as a total newbie.. :)
A huge thumbs up and well done. Next step is to put one or two of those lovely veg, when they ripen, into your local show :)

I took over an allotment in April and am next to the neatest plot on the site. Help!! I hope to heaven there's no judging!
(My potatoes are higher though :P)
;D ;D ;D Very well done, its nice to get a prize when you weren't aware of the competition initially. Your other plot will soon look as good as the first one ;)
Wonderful result, very well done, just think what you can do next year when you have a chance to plan your planting in advance, once you know the date of the competition,YOU will be the champion I'm sure.
Looking really good. Congrats on 3rd, thanks for showing us the pictures :)
Congratulations, well done!
I won the 'Best Newcomers' prize the first year I had a plot and I also had no idea the competition existed. One of the Miserable Old Blokes came afterwards and told me (in other words) that it was a fluke and I shouldn't expect to ever win anything again. I won Best Plot the following year.
It's been downhill ever since. ::)
Brilliant result, well done.
well done, really good result ;D
Your plot looks fantastic Gavin!
Well done Gavin. ;D
I have just been looking through the photos on your blog and have been amazed at how much you have done in such a short time. You must be really pleased.
There are plenty of things that you have done that have given me some ideas for my own vegetable garden (I don't have an allotment, just a very large garden).
Did you use the wood from pallets to line your path and if so, where do you get the pallets from?
Brilliant, I am speechless with admiration. Lovely plot. You must really enjoy doing it, as can see from your enthusiasm on your blog.
Did you get third for best plot or best newcomer Gavin?
If you were on our site we'd be very proud of you!!
