Post by: DavidW on May 26, 2012, 14:40:50
Hi, i have chickens on my allotment, does anyone have ducks on theirs, if so, what type would you recommend and would there be any problems in keeping them there

Thanks

One of our fellow allotmenteers keeps ducks.  Indeed we hatched some for him recently.  He keeps them alongside the chickens, although they have their own little den where they can go to lay eggs and to sleep.  He has a pond made from a domestic-sized garden pond liner.

You've got to be a bit careful about communal feeding and drinking, of course, since medications intended for chickens may not be suitable for ducks, but other than that there seems to be no problem.

You'd need to check with the allotment management whether ducks may not be allowed.
