Title: What can I do to prevent my cabbage heads from splitting?
Post by: bajmoe on May 20, 2012, 19:14:07
Iv'e just returned from a weeks holiday to find my cabbages have split, I suspect the splitting is caused by the pressure of excessive water taken up after the heads are solid, but what can I do to prevent my cabbage heads from splitting in the future?

Harvest them earlier and / or sow in succession.  All cabbages will split after standing for a certain period of time.  Some stand longer than others depending upon variety and climate.   You can get varieties which stand well depending on the type of cabbage you prefer.
