Title: bendy asparagus
Post by: gwynnethmary on May 07, 2012, 12:13:19
The crowns we planted two years ago are coming up quite well-in fact I ate my first one yesterday!  They are quite thick though-is that good?  Also, they are very bendy.  Why would that be?  All of the bends are in the same direction, except  one that  bends the other way!

Thick is very good! Bendy is caused by some sort of check or damage, like frost, or a slug nibble. Mine has been especially bendy so far because of the cold weather and occasional ground frost.

I would agree with frost damage Gwyneth. I have had similar problems with other plants and I am only ten miles from you.
