I just noticed how many of you are 'around' same time.. ;D
Just to say..you are doing cracking job..I haven't noticed any not so 'appropriate' posts around for long while..do they still keep 'bombing' us with the 'rubbish' all the time?
Since the number of moderators has been increased (August 2011) we have banned the approximately same number of people as were banned from the start of the forum.
Every new member is checked out for potentially being a spammer- these are who are on the ban list.
I cannot imagine how much work it was for the moderators before we all joined in, although the number of spammers trying to join appears to have increased considerably in the last couple of years.
Despite that it must have been a lot of work, especially as Dan has now simplified the process- it used to be very unwieldy.
Soem days there can be 5 or more new members and they all turn out to be spammers! other days just a couple of nice "normal" gardeners!
So who is going to buy my new wizard wonder fork? only £99.99.9p from www.youmustbehavingalaugh.co.uk ;D
Not me -the link doesn't work!
How do you know the difference between a normal gardener and a spammer?
Are gardeners normal?
Gosh..I didn't have no idea it was that many 'daily' basis...well, I didn't know what to expect really.
But now I know..and I humbly.. (http://www.freesmileys.org/smileys/smiley-gen053.gif) (http://www.freesmileys.org/smileys.php).. for all your efforts.. :)
Thanks to you all!
Are gardeners normal?
;D....suppose it depends of the definition of 'normal'..but I would say NO.. ;D
I think we are still bit 'oddities'..
Personally, I find normal people are all a weird.
What I find hardest about being a mod is that you have to keep up with all the threads - even ones you aren't interested in - in case somebody has a hissy fit and starts being obstreperous to other posters. Or people posting adverts. Or one or two others ....You know who I mean! It helps when people see something not right and do "report to moderator" so thanks to all of you that do that.
The new members are easy enough since we get notifications when someone joins up. The hard thing is deciding whether they are genuine or not. Usually it's easy but sometimes quite a close call.

Nice one dopey!!
I'll change what I said about "nice normal gardeners" to people who are just not out to post spam all over the place then! as we seem to recognize that either we are not normal or we do not want to be normal! ;) ;)
A lot of new members NEVER post or even activate their membership which is something we do not understand, maybe people just join then forgot they ever did.
Power to your elbow. The mods do a very good job and being a good boy don't have to suffer from their moderation. But me and Kev were never asked to be G.M's
No you weren't. :-X :-X :-X
Dan could only gag some of the troublemakers - don't know why he didn't pick you and Kev tbh!
I think we should be given a go, arter all what could go wrong. ::)
Goodlife .........what have you started!!! ;D ;D
You could certainly do the early mornings Kev, that is usually checking out all the "new members" on a different time zones who join in the small hours.
:-\ ;D

Yeh! what could go wrong, easy peazey. Just get rid of all the people who have a bad case of Portnoys complaint and drive nissan micras, start up a tourettes thread, and give advice on the need to wear clean knickers if they are going to climb trees. ;) Also for a couple of quid we would turn a blind eye to anything that is a bit near the mark.

Hey guys - we could be filthy
Definately that!.. ;D

Phew..I'm not proud owner of micra anymore...I stay put.
Goodlife .........what have you started!!!
;D ..its ACE..I only said 'thanks'... (http://www.freesmileys.org/smileys/smiley-angelic004.gif) (http://www.freesmileys.org/smileys.php)
;D ;D ;D ;D. I can see the mods are going to need moderating. But that'll be fine coz no one's normal here ;D ;D
One of the nicest things I've noticed about A4A is the light handed touch/es. Mods here are (in my humble opinion) tolerant and patient. They rarely intervene and members tend to police themselves (I believe) because of this.
There's no one jumping at you because they disagree with your opinion. Mods are "normal" or as normal as they rest of the members. ;) There's no haughty "I'm in charge" attitude.
So, despite being a fairly well established member of another allotment / gardening forum I really do feel much more at ease, far less scrutinised and free to express my ideas and opinions here.
Many thanks Mods... and everyone else for making this a friendly place to be. :)

If I get rid of my micra can I stay?
Yes- if Smart car owners can!

We have to have a bit of leeway as Kev pedals a matiz around, with his undercrackers over his trousers and an onion sack as a cape when he heads north on a mission to save the monkeys from being hung. Although I have been temporarily demoted to Mondeo man my eyes are still firmly fixed on a Jaguar and if I win the lottery I will buy one for all the A4A mods if they make us G.Ms.
I will have to report your comment as 'Smart Car Owner', is not PC. It is just another way of having a dig at friendless people with ginger hair.
A few brown envelopes for turning a blind eye would be right up my street. 8)
I'm confused... What are Ace & Kev on about?
What's all the talk about brown envelopes, cycling and streets?
Are they changing career and becoming postmen? (http://www.tiptopglobe.com/skin/smile/s738.gif) (http://www.tiptopglobe.com/free-smiles-smileys-emoticons-blog-forum-email)

Kev, please can I keep my micra? (I'll put something in the post for you)
You really don't want what Betty will put in the post for you Kev ;D
I've just discovered a "micra" is a car. (good old goooogle)
What a let down. :( I was hoping it was a new energy efficient bicycle.
Is Kev joining a seed-swap? ??? Giant pumpkins are popular.

My first chuckle out loud moment of the day ;D
Back to the subject for just one moment?
Yes - this is, & always has been, a friendly & well disciplined Forum. Just nice people. with a great breadth of knowledge.
Yes - there have been one or two interruptions, but they have been adequately dealt with.
Let's keep it that way?
= Tim
Small cars are OK no probs with them, but mondeo man might just over rule it, thanx Betty I have just received your brown envelope. :)
With a stamp???? ;D ;D
