I've got four single trays, two double trays and a 6 foot by 3 foot monster built out of a coldframe kit plus a 40 foot soil-warming cable, and it has an extra deck in it for putting stuff in at night that comes out during the day..... and I'm out of space again.... I've pulled all the assorted brassicas, carrots, parsnips, onions and saladings out of them, but sowing the beans and this summers cucurbits has filled it... I'm having a melon experiment this year (hurrah for large greenhouses) so I do have a tray that is just ogen, charentais, Bardot and water melons... plus one that is just pumpkins, and three trays of sweetcorn , half a tray of popcorn, there are a ridiculous number of eans now.... along with four different rose beans there are three yin-yang types (Yin-Yang, Box and Egyptian pea-bean), a whole pile of dwarf shelling beans (new for this year is Flajoly, first time I've seen a major seed company with a shelling bean other than Borlotti for ages), and I didn't get round to sowing the Blue Lakes yet (not an issue, grown for canellini they don't need to go in for a couple of weeks yet... hoping to get the TPS out soon so its half tray can be used by that... I've got three butter beans in (Painted Lima, Giganda from saved seed and something from a greek deli that called itself Giganda but isn't the same thing as the one I had... hoping for some pinto's this year too...... maybe I need to get a bigger propagator....
Propagators are like motorways - traffic expands to capacity and then some.
I've got 2 doubles and stuff queuing for space from Jan to May.
Trying melons too - 3rd time lucky I hope.
But I am saving up - not for more propagators but for grafted plants.
Plants were all 1/3 off in Homebase at the weekend and I got 2 grafted Aubergine plants for just over a fiver.
Not seen any grafted melons - perhaps you have to buy them online direct from Suttons.
It is not that they fill up your available propagator space but that they dont produce that well after doing it. Grafted plants are the way to go. Propagators for fast germination only.
Live in a flat and got none of that ;D
If it will start off on the windowsill, it's OK, the rest is direct sown and has to fend for itself. :P

heh heh :D IT's insane... I thought last year, when I managed with 8 and didn't have any proper covered decently light space until May that the big one would mean the retirement of all my smaller ones... not a bit of it.... although I was a bit late getting seeds started, since then they've only had a few days when the odd one has been powered down........ OK, I'm going to use my spare greenhouse glass and lifting lights to make a big hotbed-frame.....
Well I'm hopeful I will have a bit more space in the greenhouse after the plants for the plant sale are out...problem is deciding which ones to let go, it's like selling babies......! :-\ ;D

I'm growing lots of tomatoes and chillies for our plant sale on May 13th and I feel like doing home checks on prospective owners. ;)
