in case the picture isn't too clear..............(image shack and i don't appear to get along too well)...................this tomato has germinated inside itself..............

It's just amazing how seeds can germinate inside the fruit.
I wonder if it's more visible this way?

Thanks Ina..................thats much better!!

Sorry but isn't that exactly what seeds do so therefore not surprising at all - the fruit is after all often food for the seed.
Indeed - but how often have you seen it happen??
I have only ever seen it with pumpkins. Nature is fab!
What makes this really unusual is that typical tomatoes have such a high concentration of absicic acid (which normally stops this happening) that not only does it inhibit germination in the fruit but it has to be washed off before sowing. If it isn't germination can be suppressed in otherwise ideal conditions.
Otherwise we'd have them breeding all over the place!!
Well? Could save a lot of propagator time?
i have seen it before but i never thought to plant them!!
See what happens!?

Granted, never seen it in tomatoes. Seen it loads in peppers though.
That was interesting what you said John about the acid.
I had asked Liz how come there is green on the sprouts when they were not in the light and her answer was even more amazing. She said that when she cut it open, they were white, she thought is was worms or something and after about an hour the ends had turned green.
The sprouts will get planted.
what type of tomato is this?
all i can tell you is it was a "tesco special"..... ;D
