Title: Early purple sprouting
Post by: Merry Tiller on February 21, 2005, 18:04:53
It's a funny thing but everyone else has been harvesting their Broc at my allotment site for about 2-3 weeks, mine isn't even close to throwing shoots yet, it definately says "early" on the packet, anyone else still waiting?

Ours is only just coming in. Depends to some extent on the planting time?? We've been picking early white - which I much prefer - for a week.

Mine shows no sign of sprouting (I think it is a sprouting broccoli - Red Spear), but the white I had last year was cropping in March.

Note to self...

Must include some purple sprouting broccoli
(is this the one which turns green when cooked?)

and

must grow caulis  to ensure something to harvest at this bleak time of year.

But i've been picking that new one all winter, Bordeux I think it was called.
