Title: toms outside
Post by: claybasket on April 25, 2012, 18:03:55
Ive had to tough up  my tomato's no heating since end of March, did lose some to that frosty night a few weeks backall of the yellow type! anyway we built a 4ft high polytunnel over a raised bed and put out the tomato's 12 in, I would tell you the variety but the pkts are in our Lotty shed :( no heat being used and they are doing fine so far  :) the reason they are out so early is we are off on our jaunt to Turkey for 3 weeks and the son is going to water them anyone else got the toms out in the cold?

Mine will be going out in about a week's time. I can't stand the sight of them indoors anymore! We won't get frost here now, even though it's cool for the season the nights are relatively mild. I will pop a plastic bottle on them the first few days.

I've got some of mine in pots in the polytunnel with fleece to hand if needed. Most of mine are quite young still and I won't be planting them in the poly for a little bit. I've only just sown my outdoor toms, hopefully they should romp ahead once the weather improves!

I have a few outside on the allotment under some of those office water-dispenser bottles. They seem to be holding their own.. Just. :)

I got off to a late start with duff seed, so not mine are in the bedroom still! But normally at this time of year I'd expect them to be out under plastic.
It has been nippy though!

half of mine are out in their final positions, under pvc or polycarbonate cover, extra fleece if 4 degrees or less is forecast at night. They have been out a week now and are looking fine. The other half are still in root trainers and pots in the small polycarb greenhouses as they are ok to bring in if very necessary. I`ll be putting another 9 out under pvc next week if all is ok but as for the outdoor few, well I have no idea. All have been well hardened

It depends where you are in the UK but it would be most unwise to put them outside in the North at the moment. There is snow forcast not far from me!!!
