Title: No shoots :(
Post by: mentallot on April 25, 2012, 14:37:47
Over the last 8 or so week  have planted out, in strict accordance with instructions on packet etc, approx 11 rows of spuds, beetroot, carrots, onion sets, courgettes & rhubarb. Last lot of seeds went in 10 days ago or so.

Thanks to the drought it has rained non stop for the last couple of weeks.

Nothing showing above the soil yet. Am I worrying unduly/expecting too much too soon, or is everything just rotting away under the surface .... ?

I'm blaming my slow starters on the temperature. Don't know how yours has been in Northants but I haven't seen double figures yet (W Yorks).

I live in Northants and have no shoots yet either.  Which is a good thing, given that our last frost date is early June.  If I had big shoots now, I'd need to protect them with fleece.

Don't worry

The season is late. I've delayed sowing lots crops because the soil is still cold. Your spuds know what they are doing; if they had sprouted, they would probably be frosted by now. Be patient, most things will probably appear when things warm up.

It has been a bit codl adn wet recently.... It's why I always go for modules indoors... germination minus one of its major variables....

They'll turn up the minute you take your eye off them.  ;) Don't expect much for a while yet.
