So whats the weather like with you then folks?
Here in dorset it is cold (about 5c), but nowhere near as cold as it is supposed to get (so far ::))
So far only two quite moderate frosts at night and no snow, though the sky to the east is starting to look a bit threatening.
Been keeping indoors as much as possible, plenty of clothes and central heating going non stop.
Looking forward to hearing weather reports from 'around the country'! (LOL)
oo I didn't see this before i asked you about snow in the crocus thread! It has tried to snow here and we had a teeeeeny smattering of very fine snowlike stuff. Just put heating on about half an hour ago. Someone said it was snowing over the ridgeway, I guess you blinked and missed it!
General weather the same as Richard though since I'm only about 5 miles away!
;D ;D ;D Emma!
and i've just replied to you on the 'crocus' thread too!
lol
PS No I didnt miss the snow. It missed ME!
rofl its snowing now!!!!!
Weather today here in sunny Brum has been great for February the temp at the moment is 1.7°C (35°F) last nights minimum was -1.3°C (30°C) when I walked the dog I saw someone cutting their grass and I got a lovely whiff of spring from those cuttings. 8)
I don't know what the big fuss is about, as it is quite normal to have wintery weather in February, so where's this big freeze they keep promising us ??? ::)
Exactly Roy. I have know far worse even in in my 27 years. Trouble is the media love to hype up bad weather these days, particularly in winter. Also it seems these days a few flakes of snow are enough to bring chaos. ::)
Nattyem - just had a few flakes 'up' here. Stopped again now though (i think ???) ;D
yep its stopped. :(
even in my lifetime (less than richard just) it used to be far colder and snow, heavy snow was normal jan-feb time. Though I lived in Suffolk then.
The day started with bright sunlight in Oxford, then we've had a few light snow showers, not enough to settle. Now we have bright sun again ???
North east has been badly hit with snow.
It took OH 1 hour to travel along main road, which would normally take
4-5 mins on normal day! And there were no accidents!
Debs
Been a blizzard for the last 40 minutes so the kids are out there freezing cold, but do they care, not a chance! It is settling as I type this!
Hmm strange how snow doesnt showup in a picture when its falling ???
Snowing on and off here in Barnsley temp 3c . I agree the media and everyone seem to hype up the weather. I was telling my little boy when i was his age we used to get snow half way up the back door, and a sign when it was really bad was when the buses stopped.ie ooh did you here that barry the buses have stopped ooh it must be bad.
had quite a bit of snow yesterday that didn't last long, and then again this morning, very blizzard like as i arrived at work at 7am, thankfully the roads cleared after an hour or so. and then on and off all day, can't seem to make its' mind up.
On and off all day in Oxford, plenty of sun between the snow showers :o
Looked like it was quite heavy at one point, then came the sun again!
That seems to be the thing about them doesnt it. Snow showers rather than continual 'precipitation', then skt clears again.
Had one of those this morning, v light and didnt settle, and in no time the sun was back out again.
I think most of the snowy weather only just falls short of reaching Dorchester. Looking east the clouds will start to build up and look full of snow, but dont get here moving away to the south/southwest each time.
Sarnds ruff up theer in Baarnsley Northerner. I bet thy ad snow woss wen tha were a lad though. Fost fleck a snow nar days thi shuts t' school Too bloody soft nardays No central eatin in t'classroom at are school so we ad ter set books afire to keep waarm. That's why wi never lont nowt; D
Sorry to slip inter vernacler but sometimes I forget mesen
Don't apologise Wardy, I was quite enjoying reading that, in fact we could start a thread on our local lingo, could be quite amusing on these cold dark nights.
Waddaya fink? ;D
P.S. Ya wunt be aabil to oose ya spall chekka thou. ;D ;D ;D
Weel ah think that wud be a great idea, but dinnae think ony body wud unnerstand whit oo wiz sayin' at a'.Â
The snaw is comin' doon at th'moment but dinnae think it'll lie fur long in the mornin' cos yon sun is gie hot.
Come oan Eileen an Wicker add your dialect to this threeed.
:D :D
Oi fink it best we soy where we cum frum at the yend just in case others cor guess. yow all knoo where I cum frum by mi yandle. ;D :P
Awe to be a southener with the queens english I feel so inadequate.
On the plus side we had a whole 8th inch snow this morning! :) Its almost all melted now though :(
Well, being, like, an Essex bird, I am havin' trouble understanding, like, your geordie banter...........
but then when eyes get back to my roots my 'ansome, and cum over all west country, eye knows exactly what you be talking abowt and can confirm that we 'ad an inch or so of snow which is still hanging arownd and there be some big black clowds on the horizon!
Not being born of 'Dorset Stock' (part surrey, part hampshire, only born in Dorset.) I am afraid i cant oblige on local dialect. Sure when i talk i have an accent but cant type in it! Would have to look up William Barnes or Thomas Hardy for that
Would someone like to start a new thread so we can try and 'guess the dialect' ?
Back on topic, woke up to about 5 mm of snow this morning. Most of it has melted now though.
Still snowing in East Sussex, they closed the kids school yesterday, much to most parents annoyance! By lunchtime it had mostly melted and the sun was out! (really annoyed parents at this point!!!) But as I type this we have a few cm's on the ground and more falling, and the kids are still in school! HURRAH!!
;D I think RoyBham might be frum t'West Midlands. I ad a bloke in my B & B last week from Dudley and was dead touchy abart folk calling it "Dud lie" Ooooooh It wernt me ;)
Wardy ::) It's not "Dud-lie" it's "Dud-lay" Its "Dud-lie" if yow are frum Brum, but if yow are frum der "Black Countray its "Dud-lay" Okay ::) ;D ;D
Right Roy :) glad that's sorted ;D
Come on lets get back on topic. start a new thread for 'dialects' or i may have to lock the topic
and you'll all be sent to your corners to write out one hundred times "I must not thread wander"
Anyway back on topic.
Weather here in Dorchester:
Overcast, relatively mild and trying to rain. No sign of this snow they were 'promising' for us.
Mind you that could change as darkness falls and it gets colder.
*big raspberry to Richard* let it wander I say!
Hump no snow yet poop

If/When the snow does arrive. I'll make sure i send it on down to Weymouthshire then! LOL
There is actualy a thread for dialects now. no need to go off topic on this one.
Beleive me if this forum were like another one I am member of we wouldnt be discussing it. The Moderators would've locked the thread long ago!
(http://img133.exs.cx/img133/1184/image756baby0tx.gif) (http://www.imageshack.us) ;D ;D ;D ;D sorry couldn't help myself ::)
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
But then Dan is cool and never uptight! :P
(http://members.aol.com/SamLouisa/thread_wander.gif) Behave yourselves you lot else you'll all be in detention! (http://members.aol.com/SamLouisa/lmao.gif)
Here there's a nice covering of snow once again (Essex) although I doubt it will last too long. We've had lots of snow showers but it hasn't stayed settled for long periods at all.
If it looks like it might snow I'll have to go sit up Hardys Monument to get the full benefit!
And in a chit chat section of the site like this going off topic doesn't really matter (imo) but I agree on the other allotment relevant parts its annoying if you're searching threads if they don't actually talk about the title, or you miss out on something because its changed topic and you havent read all the posts. (unless you're like me and read everything!!)
Snowing like mad and settling here at the mo (Leicester)!! Makes yer laff doesn't it, if it snows the media hype it up to panic stations and if we have a mild winter they do the same 'cos of global warming!! ???
TimJ
It has been snowing all night here in London and hasfinally settled. t=The girls rushed out to build a (very small) snowman this morning before setting off for school. Doesn't look like conducive weather for allotmenteering this weekend and I was going to get my raspberries in:'(
i need to dig over two sections of my plot where there has been a path for the last couple of years - i rearranged the layout to a 'small bed system' and this got in the way. not a worry, but i could do with at least the ground not being frozen. that would help.
still havent planted my garlic, either :( - and will see how my spinach /beet spinach (how does one tell the difference?) that i have inherited from the previous lottie holder has survived and whether it can be used. maybe i should have put the mini-cloches over it before the snow started.....

Yes but Dan is a very cool man that is why we are here not there. Calm down Richard take a deep breath, stop worrying about such trivial things in life. If Dan isn't happy he will do what needs doing so chill man.
I think the point i was making was , be gratefull that dan is a benevolent moderator. You could get much worse!
BTW ben snowing on and off for most of the afternoon here in Dorchester. Didnt settle though, thank goodness. Stopped now and the sun is out!
Snowing all day, but none settling.
We have a long house. North to South. At the north end, the snow is falling at 45º east to west. On the east side, it's 45º north to south. On the west side it's coming straight down, as though someone emptied a duvet.
No, I'm not going out to look at the south side!!
Sorry I got my posts in the wrong place. Won't do it again I'm sure ;D
:o Wrap up your tender bits tonight here in Brum the forecast is a freezing -7°C now I do believe that to be true. :o ;D
Cold snap What cold snap 1963 was a cold snap think I remember it lasting from Boxing Day until the end of March, now that's what I call a cold snap, hoping to have some pictures of my Father working in the fields at the time to show you all soon as soon as my Son shows me how to use my new scanner.
::)
(http://members.aol.com/SamLouisa/umbrella.gif) The weather here in West Essex is perfectly ridiculous. Â I was out shopping earlier and as I came out of the shopping centre it looked like a blizzard, and by the time we'd pulled out of the car park, the sky was an untouched bright blue and the sun was blazing like a hot July day (just didn't feel like it, LOL) Half an hour later, hail stones followed by more snow and then....yep, you guessed it... more bright blue sky and sunshine! Â Ludicrous!(http://members.aol.com/SamLouisa/umbrella2.gif)
Very cold in Belgium. Blue skies then lots of snow that never sticks. (And people go out to buy sledges in a country where the snow doesn't stick and there are NO HILLS!

LOLOL Ken!
Got back from the flix about an hour ago and we were down to -5 brrrrr! >:(
::) I don't believe it ::) I was so sure they would get a 24 hour forecast right but no -7°C here just -2.5°C so they can't even get it half right ;D ;D
Down here in Dorset my greenhouse thermometer registered -6C for just outside the greenhouse last night (even with heat inside it was about -2c!).
Day today has been glorious (OK had a flurry of snow this morning), not that cold this afternoon though.
But guess what i did this afternoon. While some of you cant even see your lawns for snow, i was out giving mine its first cut of the year! Now that IS mad!
I have been contimplating cutting the grass for a couple of weeks now, but have resisted as I am always worried about the damage a sudden freeze could do to the newly cut grass, even if it is only trimming the tips off. No snow here this side of Essex since yesterday, and today, altho frrrreezing this morning on the walk to school, the suns rays were warm and number one son and I spent a nice couple of hours in the greenhouse....altho he did insist on sitting on an upturned bucket in front of the leccy heater with it on full pelt! Leccy meter spinning like a cd!
Can you Adam and Eve it! Tis blinking blonking snowing again in my part of frrrreezing Essex!
QuoteLeccy meter spinning like a cd!
Sometimes EJ you crack me up, you really do, ;D don't stop, I like it...No I don't... ::)
I love it ;D ;D ;D
The forecast last night said snow in the Central Belt of Scotland, and it was right for once. About an inch overnight and still snowing, but melting at the same time.
20 mph speed limit on the Forth road bridge causing massive tailbacks on sliproads on our side (north of the river). Got husband half way to Inverkeithing station this morning but he decided to walk the rest of the way when we met the end of a queue about a mile from the station.
Forecast says it will stop snowing this morning, hope so as have to go out.
Sue
Apart from one good flurry, I've never seen so little snow for so long - weeks of drifting 'feathers' & nothing more!
Would you believe it. I went to Barcelona for a few days to have a look at the Gaudi garden, for inspiration on a new project, and was snowed in at the airport! It never snowed at home.

Guess what happened last night after doing the above?
Thats right! it snowed didnt it? Settled for a bit too. Typical!
