Title: hw much to erect a greenhouse?
Post by: grawrc on April 18, 2012, 09:01:26
I've been given a greenhouse - I think it's about 5 x 8 - and it is currently in pieces on my plot.

Someone has offered to assemble it for me but i would need to pay him of course.

Could anyone give me an idea how much would be a reasonable price for the job?

Hi Anne ,important part of getting a Greenhouse up is to have the ground it is going to stand on very very level.

Are you going to prepare the ground yourself? This has to be factored in.

I would ask this person how much they want...........maybe £10 an hour........I am hopeless at this kind of thing :-\ :-\

I have recently put up a greenhouse on my plot and it took a good 1/2 a day so £10 per hour would work out expensive,Would they not do it at mates rates ie-  plenty of cups of tea while doing it and a few beers after down the local ;)
That's how i generally work when a friend needs a hand.

Thanks for the suggestions. I don't know the guy personally so I'll have to play it by ear when I see him! I just wondered what sort of ballpark to expect.

Best to ask him how much it would cost to put it up, dont ask him an hourly rate, you will over pay that way, make sure the rate is for levelling the ground, and making the base (or if you have one already then that's OK, its a hard call to make as im in London so it would be a lot more here, but i would expect to pay at least £100 to £150, he will drive down to you use his van, fuel, + labour, if he asks you start at £80 and see what he says.... start low first, you can always go higher when you start to barter, but you cant go back after!!!
