Must admit, when I saw it in the garden centre, I thought it was a ploy to create a product that they could charge a premium price for.

But when you think of all the pallets of compost that get transported round the country, cutting that to one third the weight would be better for the environment.

Apparently, it's peat free and it's the coir in it that expands, like those Jiffy plug discs and they expand A LOT so it could easily go to 3 times the size.

But I think the product is aimed at balcony gardeners who haven't got much space to store bags of compost and maybe struggle lifting them too and so could be useful for some.  But I wont be buying it.

I had a similar product several years ago- surely it's just like jiffy 7's?

I bought some at a show and gave it my friend.  She was so totally delighed with it that I humped a couple of bags of the stuff back from a day trip to Weston for her.

I bought some for my mum yesterday at her request, she can't lift heavy bags of compost and did not baulk at the price of £9.98 per bag which I did! The packet says it bulks up to 50l but it seems a bit of a faff having to decant it into a bigger container to reconstitute it. The food in it is supposed to last 6 months, and as mum only wants it for containers seems good. I will ask for her feedback when she uses it.
