I always use pencil to write on my labels as I find it lasts better than sharpie pens. when it comes to cleaning my labels I find that those household sponge erasers work like a dream. Just wet and rub ;D. Brilliant!!!!
I buy mine from the pound shop but this is the type of sponge I use.

I use a Brillo pad! (And a 2B pencil to write with.)
Thanks for the tip, will get one of those sponges - I've always used traditional rubber and it takes ages and ages.
Those sponges are wonderful. I've used them for years & sent my friend back to Portugal with one & now when she comes over she gets some to take back for friends. Lidl or Aldi do one to. They didn't have many one time when I went in, contract cleaners had almost cleared them out.
I use brillo.
I use disposable plastic knives for labels - plenty of room to write on. I use a fine sharpie pen to write with. The ones I use are about 3 seasons old now. I just submerse them in the sink with hot bleachy water. Bleaches the pen off a treat.
I use fine sandpaper.
