Is £110 a day too much to pay .
Ceiling and woodwork need painting, walls stripping and papering. One average size lounge.
Have found a guy with very good feedback on the local good workman internet site .
Sounds in the reasonable to expensive range but I'd get a rate for the job not by the day.
Does it include materials?
It sounds very reasonable to me..that's if his 'day' is more than just few hours at the time...
He said it could take up to four days..........have to buy our own paper and paint etc.
Yes..I would like better to have one price for the whole job rather than 'day rate'... :-\...and buying 'your own' is better too as there is always chance other person getting it wrong.
I just mentioned your post to OH..and his reply was.."That's rip off!".."she needs to get price for the job!".."decorators come and go and simple enough job can take days!"...and .."depends how many cups of tea they drink"..."no more than £300 per average room!"
..so that's me and you told.. ::) ;D
Oh heck...wish my dear old Dad was still alive,he would have done it lovely for me bless him.
Will ask him for a job quote I think.
48 people have said that he has done a good job on the feedback that is why I was drawn to him.
8 years ago my mom paid £800 for her small flat. She had the lounge. Hall and bedroom painted including doors and windows. They suplied the paint.
They were recommended by Age Concern
We were had once by a day rate. It was for outside but he spent a lot of time admiring the bits he had done ::).
Have you got an address for him?
Who has wriitten the feedback.
DH is in building trade and says it's a reasonable price not cheap but not overpriced but should only take 3 day s max so you should ask him how long he is going to take.
hope that helps

Hi betula I am a self employed decorator, £110 a day does sound a bit on the cheap side, but as said that does depend what his hours are, mine are 8.00-5.00 and I dont stop, definitely get a writen quote. I have heard many stories over the years where people have had cheaper tradesmen in but if they are working at half the speed they should be working on a day rate can be very costly for the client. I myself tend to always use Dulux trade paint not retail there is a big difference and I don't percentage my materials they come to the customer at cost. As a rough guide because it does depend on the size of the room and how much woodwork there is to be done, 1 day to strip the paper and prepare, 1 day to paint the ceiling and undercoat the woodwork, a day to gloss woodwork, and a day to paper depending on the repeat patern on the paper 4 days for the job :) hope this helps a little :)
Many thanks for all your advice.
Had another chap in for a quote and he will give it to me Tuesday.
Have the second chap starting in few weeks,£310 including paint .
Have had a little windfall and determined to spend it on the house LOL
The bathroom next ;D
It sounds like happy days Betula, enjoy.
