After a while of trying to find out the answer to my question and failing! I thought i would post here :D
Im in the process of sorting my pea support but cant seem to find out how high i need to make it! I know you get dwarf and normal peas but cant seem to find which category mine are ?
Im planning on growing Elvas and kelvedon peas?
Aslo what style support do you think is best as there are soooo many to choose from ;D

I can't find info about the height of the Elvas..but as it is commercial variety..usually those are 'normal' type height.
Kelvedon Wonder comes under that same 'gategory'..they grow up to 1m tall.
As for support..you could use dead branches or other 'cut offs'...pea netting/chicken wire mesh supported by canes...what ever you have handy.
I've saved since last autumn all tree/bush prunings that are large enough for the job and planning to use those to start with following with mesh when prunings run out.
Hi Mummybunny... this is the easiest and cheapest way of growing peas. I found it on google somewhere and it is great. Just add strings as they grow..
Plant 3 rows within 6" spacing and about 3" apart for each pea.. That way the pigeons get some, the mice get some and you get some..

I like to use that green decorative fencing... held up with canes.. :)
My method, for a fairly short line of peas is to sow two lines, thickly and close together. Then I fix some four foot high firm green covered wire fencing, small squares, with some five foot canes which I weave in and out downwards, and push into the ground, in between the two lines, so they can grow up either side. I place the canes every two foot or so, and there is spare cane sticking up above the top of the fencing. That way I can put string supports along the top if they grow higher than that. Not sure if that is very clear, but it is quick to do.

I grow them up wigwams (I don't grow many dwarf peas!) with a wigwam for each variety, and string wound round to give them something to grip.

As it's now sunny, my replacement gardener (!) husband has just been out and taken photos of our short line of peas and their support. I so very nearly didn't sow any this year, as I'd run out of time, preparing to go into hospital for my half knee replacement. But I was encouraged to do just a few, as they are really my very favourite veg to grow, or rather to eat! Now looking at them, I am so pleased I did. And everything looks so promising, it is a great morale booster.
The earth is now damp and soft, so I thought I'd better not start wandering around with my crutches - I might sink in and never get out!
This system is so quick to put up for a short row. When I used to grow more, in UK, I used to have a much longer roll of wire, and erected it in a large U shape, with canes, with about a metre in between the sides. That worked well too. Once done, it is done. I sow the peas first, thickly, in two rows about 8ins apart, and mark the rows well. Then I erect the wire support and push the canes in so it stands directly in between the rows. Assuming they come up and aren't eaten first, off they go with no extra help.
