I saved lots of blue lake french beans last year - its a bog standard climbing french bean but lots of cropping it them and they are delicious fresh and freeze great to - and so before i boil them up for the hens was wondering if anyone can use them. I sowed two trays which have had 100% germination and so they are good and viable.

Lucky hens.. ;D..but you can eat the seeds as 'soup beans' yourself too you know. How about pampering yourself for change.. ;) How's the girls anyway? ;D..plenty of eggs?
OR...how about using the beans as 'refried beans' with eggs and bacon on toast...YUM... ;D

Hi Goodlife - the blue lake have a small bean seed so not quite a soup bean. They are delicious green bean tho.. I have grown them from time to time and they freeze well..
ps. the Chesnok garlic bulbils are doing great...

No not literally soup bean but the as for the size..it doesn't matter.. ;) ;D...they are still edible.. :-X 8)
And nice to hear about the garlic bulbils..mine are going on too and all planted outside..if we would only get some rain.. ::)

Ladies are laying like mad and have ginger sussex sitting on some new eggs so hopeful for a hatch in 2 and a bit weeks!
You are right i really should eat them if there are no takers the beans that is!.
Im terrible with dry beans though as when i remember to soak them i often then forget about them until the smell reminds me where the bowl is! must do better!

I find BLue Lake makes a good haricot style bean, noticably quicker cooking than a lot of dried beans, certainly if you have them and pea-beans in the smae dish you will need to start the pea-beans off an hour earlier...
