Title: Flowers n stuff to annoy beasties
Post by: Slaine on February 19, 2005, 23:03:58
I've been told the Lavender next to tomatoes can help keep the greenfly at bay, and that spring onions next to carrots stops carrotfly.

Since i have took over an organic plot that hasnt had any pesticides or chemicals on it for over 3 years, i want to see if i can keep it that way.

Does anyone know of a fairly comprehensive list of what flowers n stuff are best to put next to what veg?

Or can we cobble one together? I know that you can buy natural predators like wasp lavae for whitefly but it gets pricey.

The previous owner of my lottie said he lost entire crops of brussles to whitefly and gave up trying to grow them.

I've got the most wonderful book from my local Wilko's.   It's called " Companion Planting".

It goes through all the flowers and herbs etc and what goes best with veg to deter pests.   It also gives advice and recommendations on what don't go to together very well.

If you can't get hold of a copy drop me a message & I'll either do a posting or e=mail folks a list.

Bob FLowerdew - companian plants.

Nasturtiums - keep blackfly off beans

onions - need five rows to one row of carrots, though.

plant garlic under roses to keep greenfly off.

also things not to grow together such as beans and onions.

basil near toms is supposed to improve flavour.
