Title: Allotment water ban
Post by: newtona2 on March 26, 2012, 23:39:47
Not a hosepipe ban, we always have that, but our Council refusing to turn the water on at the allotments because of the impending hosepipe ban.

We pay £66 per year in Tandridge, so I'm not very impressed.

I have sent a letter to the council with an attachment of the rules on the hosepipe ban for Sutton and East Surrey which clearly states it is a ban just for hosepipes, not watering cans etc. I suspect the Council want to be seen as being even more protective of our water.

Has this happened at your allotments?

I'd be keen to get a list of sites that do have the water on.

Regards,

Tony

I asked our site to turn the water on, and they did - dip tanks, late March. Watch Oak, Battle, East Sussex

Sunningdale, Berks.

Water turned on last week. Notice up on the board and plot holders emailed about the hosepipe ban.

Success! I wrote a letter of complaint, pointing out that the Water company ban is for hosepipes only and thus the council had no right to enforce a ban that did not involve hosepipes, and they have agreed they read the enforcement notice wrongly, and have now promised to turn the taps on this weekend.

Thanks for all replies.

Our allotment water returned this week after its winter break.

Pleased as it saves me taking a bucket of rainwater to the loo if caught short  :o ;D

They cant turn the water off, if your a blue badge holder, your still entitled to use a hose, and you are still aloud to draw water directly from the tap using a watering can, and drip feed (with a timer) and soak hose, again with a timer, some water comps you can use a hose in a poly still
