Title: How have you cut your spending
Post by: Borlotti on March 24, 2012, 21:07:10
Got cat food from the Co-op (own brand), cats hate it so in the bin.  Bought cigs in 10 instead of 20 to cut down, but found buying 1 packet of 10 at £4 a packet then creeping out later to buy more, so cheaper to buy 20. I will give it up tomorrow, promise.  Got kidney beans for chilli con carne, Morrisons own brand 18p, should be OK I hope.  No more seeds (apart from the £10 free voucher from survey, and only under £2 for postage). Got two lottery tickets for tonight, so maybe will be lucky.  Dream on.  Two holidays this year are from the Sun newspaper, in a caravan.  Don't have a car, so no problem with petrol.  Grandchildrens birthday money is cut to £10 each, and when they start earning nothing.  Hopefully no dental treatment, vets bills and should be OK next month. Heating bills should go down now summer has arrive.  ;D ;D

quit smoke - for Lent - They are running a no smoking campaign in various Asdas up here so getting my anti smoking stuff for free.  Them mini lozenges aren't too bad - do you want me to send you a packet?

Shopping Habbit have changed although not 2 much always like looking for a bargain but now much more targeted check out various sites and print of vouchers and coupons when i can. Dont do impulse shopping anymore and a lot of projects on the house are now on hold as i cant justify the money.

Largest expense is nursery for Harriet while she does not have to go she needs it so i work nights 4 nights a week 11pm to 7am and this pays for her to go to nursery 2 days a week (when i sleep) and i have a little left over to help cover the increased cost in just about everything else. Have been looking for a full time job for over a year and despite 2nd and 3rd interviews losing out to candidates with more experience which is very frustrating as there is nothing i can do to resolve that without a job in the field i am qualified in.

I dont smoke, dont drink only vice is bottled water which i try and pick up in france when i can as 6 bottles is the same price of 2 in the uk and if you add in the price of the fuel its a cost neutral trip :) I am trying to grow as many of the plants for the garden out of the seed i have this year without having to buy 2 much. I have my £10 voucher and am planning on buying the Buddleja 'Buzz' Sky Blue they had on offer for 1p and another propagator but my voucher is not being recognised so i need to call monday and place the order :)

Big splurge this month are my tax disk and next week i have a man come to professionally clean my oven which sounds like a extravagance but its filthy with bunt on food over the last 2 years and its developed a heat spot so some things burn and others dont cook. Had to throw away food because of this. So its money i need to spend to make it a happy oven again, I have tried various cleaners and nothing has worked. This is £70 for cleaning both ovens and my extractor fan and replacing some of the bulbs so i dont think its a bad price :)

Next month car needs a service :(

Ok how about this-
Water is boiled on the woodburner in the evening.
Put in a flask.
Next morning used to wash the pots. (got dishwasher sat there looking preety!)
Then used to wash plant pots
then to wash to parsnips from the lottie.
then goes on the garden.

another one- always wash hands using cold water - so  not wasting water/ heat running the hot tap.

Buy your husband cheap and nasty pies. It will put him on a diet at the same time and save on dog food. I buy all the same colour socks now, then I don't end up with any odd ones. (where do they go)

I find that ive always been a big miser with money and i had a long old stretch unemployed last year which meant eating more eggs from the girl than i wanted to.

Petrol is a real bug bear and not buying luxory things like clothes music alcohol but wore thermals all winter in the house to try to save on the gas which I wouldnt do again unless i really had to.

Its hard to get by without decent work/wages but if you are a gardener the summer autumn is the easiest time isnt it and thats whats ahead.
Im looking forward to roast tomatoes and yummy baby leaf salads - with no eggs in them.
Ive picked up a bit more work lately and so typing in new trousers whoop!

Pound a bowl - spend a tenner and you have more food than you can carry.

Using my bus pass instead of the car - ok it takes more than twice as long, and much more if the connection is late, but I do at least get to see other peoples gardens from upstairs.

I needed new wellies for the summer..short type..after doing some window shopping and pricing some up..I ended up cutting my old wellies down... ;D ;D I'll get new cheap 'long' pair for next winter.. ;) ;D Ahh..no need..almost forgot...I've got winter pair already!  ;D ;D
Other than that I don't really spend much day to day living anyway. We are quite frugal already. Luckily winter haven't been that cold so most of the time wood burner has been enough to keep house warm and central heating is not been nenessary. Must make better efford with baking own bread..been bit lazy with baking last couple of months and I've got two sacks of wheat and rye to use up.
No more shopping for seeds or plants (promise for the summer  :-X)..unless for work
