Title: Which Rhubarb?
Post by: Tin Shed on March 20, 2012, 13:14:25
Having received my voucher from T&M [thank you Cam!] I have decided to get another rhubarb [that was the easy decision], but cannot make my mind up between 'Champagne' or ' Fulton's Strawberry Surprise'
I am going for flavour and colour and would love some of your comments if you are growing either or both!

I have gone for champagne this year.  It is suppose to be a sweet variety.

I haven't tasted it yet, but I can't wait  :)

I grow 2 varieties:

Timperley Early - a very early variety that produces loads for a long period of time.
Victoria - Ready for harvest before the TE is finished and I am still harvesting it in August.

I have crowns collected from all sorts of places and I have no idea what any of them are. They crop at different times, but I'm not sure I could tell one from the other once they are in a rhubarb crumble. In short, I would select whichever gives you the cropping season you desire, unless you are wanting to eat it raw.

I have the Fultons strawberry surprise. Quite large sticks and a lovely flavour.
