Has anyone got one of these and if so how do you rate them?
I do like to make my own chips with home grown pots. of course, but changing the oil and cleaning the fryer is a job I hate.
Would an air fryer solve my problem and still produce super chips.
Don't own one myself but have been tempted as i loath oven chips and frying stinks the house out.
But after reading the reviews on Amazon I decided no - they perform well but many complaints that the machine doesn't last very long.
Have a gander and see wot you think:

Thanks for reply. I would be horrified if it stopped working.
my elderly neighbour bought one and asked me to try it so I could show him how it worked.
It was very good but I felt it took rather a long time so I'm not sure how energy efficient they are (he's not concerned as he has solar panels 8))
I too read reviews and decided against it.
I did however buy a halogen oven which makes delicious chips, very crisp and very quick. :)
Tell me more please. Do you fill it with oil?

no it's an oven, one of those big glass things with a light that goes on and off.
I've baked pasties, fish n chips.Roasted whole chicken and roasted veg and a smashing toad in the hole.Heats up quickly and simple to clean. :)
Do you put raw potato chips in it?
We had the actifry, the lid broke, which I found out is a common fault. So now she has a halogen which was not a cheapy as it has the paddle, so now we can have my favorite air fried, flavour coated chips but she can cook all other sorts of food. It works out cheaper than the actifry

I suffer from SAD so I tend to eat a lot of chips through the winter months.
I use a long life oil, currently this one

I find it a lot easier when it comes to cleaning the fryer, as it does not seem to emulsify as sunflower oil does.
I don't think tescos have it in store at the moment, but if you have an Asian shop they will probably have a selection to choose from.
The only thing is it will not be as healthy as sunflower oil.
The other thing is to remember to lower the basket slowley, so the oil does not bubble up too much so helps keep the lid clean.
wouldn't be without my actifry best thing i ever bought.
I hope you've kept the receipt donnythistle ;D.
I have been thinking of buying a halgen oven and welcome all info. above.

I chop up potatoes ,raw, peeled or not.Put them in a bowl with a drizzle of oil then mix them .a bit like tossing a salad.Spread them on one of the trays provide.I turn them once half way through cooking and they're yum.
Roast potatoes the same.Very little oil and beautifully crisp.
I blanch my chips/spuds for a approx 3 mins in boiling water. Drain and put a bit of oil into pan and stir up chips/spuds. Put on tray at 200 degrees. Come out very nice. Alternatively I used to blanch chips as before and drop in chip pan which cooked them very well - crispy etc but it does dirty the oil very quickly. ie oil needs cleaning every use. Halogen oven method a lot less cleaning. Macmac do you make toad in hole from scratch in halogen oven?
Thanks for replies.
