Title: Cheese & Ham Pizza
Post by: gazza1960 on March 16, 2012, 11:33:39
After making a few Calzones yesterday,it made sense to use the remaining pizza dough and cheese contents for a more traditional flat Pizza,so all I needed was a Tomato sauce and id have dinner sorted.

so,Tomato Sauce.!!!!!!!!!!!!

1 Red pepper Small Diced
1 White Onion Small Diced
1 Tin Italian Tomatoes chopped (or 6 fresh skinned seeded and chopped)
3 cloves of Garlic crushed
1 tbsp sugar
1 tbsp Tomato Puree
salt and pepper to taste
2 tbsp Fresh Basil
1 tsp dried Oregano
1 tsp dried Margoram
Olive Oil

Heat Oil and gently fry, onion, pepper and garlic for 10 mins.
Once softened add Tomatoes,Puree and sugar then stir.
Season and continue to stir pan,for 10 mins untill you have a pulpy consistency.....not too wet....but not too dry....add warm water if contents appear too dry.

Add dry herbs and fresh basil, and stir, then place lid on and leave for 2 mins.

Remove pan from heat and cool for 30 mins.

Roll out Pizza dough to a rustic 10 ins approx and about 2 to 3 mm thick for thin crust or 3 to 5 mm for thicker crust.

Spread Cooled Tomato sauce onto dough pizza base.
Then spread Calzone cheese and ham mixture over Tomato sauce.
Sprinkle more Oregano over and splash with olive oil.

Place Pizza tray on top shelf for 12 mins for thin based or 15/20 mins for thicker based dough.

Ah gazza, always looks so good! I do make home made pizza but those looked absolutely delicious.

I admit that I often make pizza when I see that there are a few scraps of cheese left, a couple of slices of ham, the end of a salami etc. waste not want not and all tastes great on a pizza!
