Title: new plot old polytunnel
Post by: mentallot on March 16, 2012, 10:46:52
just inheriting a new plot with an existing polytunnel. I guess 4m * 2m or so, with a zipper door that's broken - am assuming the zips are kaput. Any advice on remedial actions ? Was thinking of maybe glueing some extra poly onto the door and fastening some velcro to door/tunnel ? Any advice would be helpful, thanks :)

I put up a new polytunnel a couple of weeks ago, it has a zip opening and I figured that would be the first thing to go so I was thinking of putting up a simple wooden door frame and a hinged door before it went. I guess it depends on the state of the rest of the tunnel before going to any hassle but on a new one I think it's probably worth it. Velcro is only going to be a very short time fix at best I would have thought.

Right then as it looks like more rain and less gardening this weekend I'm going to try the wooden door & frame idea using some combination of the two methods shown below

Then sink frame into predug holes, ziptie to the tunnel framing and Bob is hopefully your mothers brother.

Any thoughts ? The video shows a door/frame that's quite a lot heavier, so I though about 2*1 for the door and 2*2 tanalised for the frame ...

Thanks in advance

I'd be interested too in suggestions for the door. Did you see the one recently posted here http://www.allotments4all.co.uk/smf/index.php/topic,71919.0.html as that appears about right for the frame and door?

Thanks, looks like the door is simple timber battening onto 2inch tanalised/treated frame so happier about my sizings now.
