We used this piece of garden as a store for the 7mm grit and lately for the boulders for the Glacial End Moraine. It is about 8 feet wide and 12 feet long. It faces NorthWest. We do not want to remove the trellis as theyare well covered with 2 honeysuckles, 2 Jasmines and 4 Clematis. Originally we intended to put the sandstone trough we found, in here as a feature, but now we know how much it is worth, we will put it a lot further away from the gate!. Any ideas? We are looking for something a bit different.

fernery? thinking of the aspect.
Thanks, er this is going to sound wrong, but we already got one!
Palustris :)
Only an Idea could you perhaps use it to bring on Cane Fruits!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Dont really know its only a suggestion. ???
Hope it will help.....Maybe make it into a Cold Frame!! ???
1. Climbing frame for small but enthusiastic grandchildren/cats??
2. Sculpture from familial blacksmith?
3. Bonsai on stands or is it to close to the gate?
4. Bog garden or marshy area
5. Ye olde english tea shoppe for garden visitors
Hex
1. Only if parents supervise grandchildren at all times, perferably with them on a lead with a cattle prod handy. Cats already climb up Pergola and Extensions.
2. Got an idea for one of them anyway and his back is too bad for metal wrenching!
3.Definitely too close to the road for precious stuff.
4. Got one (nearly, when I get round to filling in the pond in the Shrub border.
5.Visitors can have their tea in the kitchen and like it or lump it. (Nearer the 'comfort station' too)
If you cannot find a use for it, any chance of putting it on the back of a lorry and sending it to me ;D
It would be a perfect little 'play area' for me. Great for trying out and composing small gardens before commiting them to their permanent sites.
But what would I fill the hole with? ;D
Seriously though, I have lots info on Garden design and lots of garden designs for small areas like this, but they are all for 'whole' gardens, not small areas within a larger garden. The other problem we have discovered while looking at it ourselves is what is on either side. On the left is the long herbaceous border and on the right is the new rock garden.
It is hard to find something which will not clash with one or the other. A simple paved area with a bench would probably be easiest, but the view out of the area is straight into the Polytunnel, so not desparately beautiful, even if masked by a trellis with climbers on it.
Still thinking hard. :-\
What about a mini Japanese patch - hummocky feathery acer, a hosta or two, a boulder and lots of pebbles. Maybe even a wee bubble water feature.
Dare I suggest a formal rose garden? ;D
What about a stand alone water feature such as a big lump of stone with water running down or some of those big stainless steel pipes? Not sure where you would then see it from though. Expensive from garden centres but easy enough to do with big drill. Not too far from house for electrics etc.
And just what effect do you think running water would have on me? I'd never be able to go past without having to come back inside!
at least it is close to the house.....
Something in willow? Â Green room, or indeed come and collect our wigwam as long as you dig it up.
We have a good book of practical methods and willow designs that you might like to borrow.
