Title: Kenilworth/King George tomatoes anyone?
Post by: Jayb on March 10, 2012, 09:14:21
I've just found an envelope containing a few seeds of Kenilworth/King George tomato, a variety from HSL. Plot 51a kindly sent me these a little while ago; unfortunately I'd misplaced them until now. I believe they are a very tasty,  fairly old and once commercial variety. From the information on the net I think these are more suited to indoor growing? But I wonder if anyone has experience of growing them outdoors? and how do they taste  ;D

I grew them once... under glass though... didn't save any so they mus'n't have been anything special...  :-X

Well..I've got same variety sown and growing on under lights. HSL gave it to me as free packet this year.
So we shall see what kind of 'moneymaker' they turn out to be.. :-X ;D..I'm sure they'll be fine..sort of tomato tasting anyway.. ;) ;D

Always a fav of my dear old Mum who was a proud midlander but she could only get them from old friends when visiting Coventry/Leamington - IIRC they are sweet medium sized fruit - ideal for the table (maybe green stripey top - not sure about that???)
I thought they had gone the way of all things but now Ill have to buy some - just for the memories!

Mmmm, hope I like them as much as your mum B'Nick  ;D I've only a couple of seeds over but you are welcome to them, germination was good. Or fingers crossed I'll have some fresh seed in the Autumn. PM me your addie if you'd like them  :)

Good to know someone else is growing them too this year Goodlife, we will have to do a taste review! :) Are your plants destined for indoors or out?
