Hello just bought my potato seeds from homebase just discovered they feel a bit soft is this ok? Dont want to open bags if its not
They are fine a touch soft, the shoots will still be fine.
Storage can dry them out if not perfect but once the shoots are out and they are planted up they will go away nicely.
My chitted ones often end up a little soft by the time they have been sat in trays for a few weeks.

To give you an idea here are a couple of pictures I have just taken.
Both tyrpes of spud were bought on the same day and set to chit on the same day and put in the same room. At the start niether showed any signs of sprouts/chits. Both are first earlies.
Home Guard is showing sprouts upto an inch long.

Mimi has just very small signs of sprouts.

Both are are looking a little wrinkly and are a little soft to the touch but and 100% happy with them. Home guard will go into large pots in a warm greenhouse this evening.

Thanks for that Jerry my first earlys are lady christl the majority of shoots are 5-10 mm which are ok but on a few they are 50 -60 mm which can't be ok cause you'd have a problem planting without breaking them off. Any chance of an idiots guide how to post photos? you could see what i mean then.
If you look under Photo posting on the Computer/Internet section lower down the board there are lots of postings about putting pictures on the site.
We got Lady Christl from the same source and they were on the soft side, usually means they have been in the warmth of the store for too long, rather than anything nasty.

You only really need one shoot per potato, though more is ok, so if those long ones are damaged as long as there are others it is not a problem.
