Title: Calabrese question
Post by: Free as a Bird on March 05, 2012, 18:54:54
Hi everyone,

Just joined - had an allotment for a few years but always learning.

Does anyone know how tall the calabrese"Sakura" is likely to grow? It says it's a "speedy veg" on the packet but I can't find any information anywhere about its eventual height. I used to think they were like cabbages or cauliflower and sat neatly on the ground... now I know different having squashed a few under netting that was too low! They burst out and the pigeons got them...  >:( Haven't tried since then.

Thank you!

About 20'' I think. I take it it's a good one if you're growing it again.

I grew this last year, it got to about 18 inches high. One smallish central head and then loads of small sideshoots. I was cropping from it from July to December.

Thank you plot103 and grannyjanny - that gives me a good idea of how high to make the protection. No I haven't tried this one before (got the packet on special offer somewhere) but we love this vegetable and I like a challenge!

Thanks very much again  :-*
