Anyone grown these two? I just got seed from a not very well advertised Garden Organic event at Martineau Gardens in Birmingham. I'm now on their mailing list so I should get plenty of notice next time.
Apparently halon is a sort of spicy-tasting cress from South Asia; I've heard of people growing fenugreek but haven't tried it. I also got shark's fin squash and a Bangladeshi variety of calaloo, both of which I've grown previously.
A worthwhile trip then... not grown either though... :-\
It's only down the road, so it wasn't much of a trip. I suggested they have a seed swap event there, and got quite an enthusiastic response, so you never know.
I looked for fenugreek a few years ago but could only find it sold as a green manure. It grew quite well and we had a couple of meals from it as short of space pre allotment. We eat it green in a Methi (fenugreek) Chaman.
Not tried Halon but it sounds tasty and Calaloo and Sharks Fin are on my list for another year. Let us know how they go.
Wasn't sure whether it was a seed swap or giveaway so I went prepared with a bag of stuff. The bloke was very kind and took it off me. Felt a bit embarrassed at the poor state of my mothy looking oca though but he said it would grow okay. got some methi and callaloo seeds. Altogether a pleasant afternoon.
If anyone else wants to grow fenugreek, it may be worth noting that we buy largish bags in the local indian grocery store and sow them fairly thickly and they grow nicely!

Was it you who asked me whether I'd taken anything to swap? I hadn't because I'd had a cold all week and I'd forgotten it was on.
Can't remember but hope your cold is getting better. Was it you who commented on the crossing of runner beans when the chap was giving his talk about seed saving. Felt such a fool as I have been isolating my shark fin squash at home so that I could keep it "pure" to find that they didn't cross with pumpkins/squashes.
Oooh, I'm pleased to hear that... I saved some Shark's Fin seed but was loathe to grow them out in case they had crossed with the pumpkins... :)

Yes, that was me. I only grow one at a time since I'm not that keen, but there's still the possibility of crossing with my neighbour's.
Nice to put a face to a name
