Title: Remembering Sarah (Supersprout)
Post by: Georgie on March 01, 2012, 18:46:09
Sarah - or Supersprout as she was known here - died five years ago today.

She lit up this forum with her wit and wisdom and I know that those of us who have been around a while still miss her.

I doubt she's resting but I hope she's at peace.   :)

There will be straw every where upstairs and she'd be laughing her head off
Five years G, I can't believe it's been that long
Lets hope Grandma gives her a hand with her garden.   :)

well thought of.

Supersprout was the first member to send me a PM when I first joined A4A. Unfortunately didn't get to meet her even though she lived reasonably near me.

I can hardly believe five years have passed. My Victoria Plum tree was planted in her memory and I got the first real harvest only last year! I still have her PM's in my Inbox too.

Is it really 5 years?!
It was Supersprout who encouraged me to use hops as a mulch and I've never looked back! I was privileged enough to go to her funeral and she was an amazing person, not just an amazing gardener!

I still have some of her jerusalem artichokes and her generous advice sheet on growing them and making soup! Can't believe that was 5 years ago. I also have a PM or two that I don't like to wipe out. Here is a sample of her writing for those who never met her.

Me too shirl! She died just before I joined the forum...and yet she was still so alive in people's minds that everyone still talked about her.
I am sure she and Grandma are growing the most beautiful veg (all properly mulched!)...

Sarah gave me a lot of help on line especially on how to keep down the weeds....yes, mulching.

When I visited my niece "Prink"who lived in March at that time, she decided to invite some A4A members around for afternoon tea.  Lorna was able to join us but, unfortunately, Sarah had to go to the hospital and couldn't come.  Not long after, we heard that Sarah had passed away.

Where on earth does the time go? I joined just a couple months before Supersprout passed, she was knitting an amazing sweater.....I said to her to please post pics when she had finished. Sadly she never did finish it.

Lovely lady  :)

It's lovely to read all your memories of Sarah, quite takes me back.

I think the reason Sarah never finished the jumper was because she was determined to finish another knitting project.  I've found the link but for some reason the photo is no longer available.

..........and I think fondly of Sarah too, tho the actual anniversary escaped me, so thanks for bringing it to us.

My thoughts are very much with her son atm and I hope that he's achieving all the things in his life he wanted. Never a good time to lose a Mum and it was particularly hard for him.

I didn't know Sarah at all as I'm relatively new around here but, from reading just a very few of her words, it's easy to tell she was a vibrant, busy, humours person to know.

As has been said I hope she and "Grandma" are having fun with the big chap's plots.
I think they would make a great team.

Well I will never forget Sarah, she was a lovely lady.   I was one of the A4Aers who attended her funeral in York.   While I was down at the funeral my elderly Mum fell and lay all night.   She was taken to the Hospital and sadly didn't get over the fall as she developed other complications.  My Mum died on the 26th March   5 years ago.   So, Sarah is a link to the start of a horrible time in my life and I will not forget her  ever....

Yes, Sarah was a great, supportive friend, even when, towards the end, she was the one that really needed the support. And young Will was and is a credit to her even though she moaned about how much he helped!! I wonder if anyone knows what Will is doing now?

I remember the day she died. I had a blocked drain and the guy that came to unblock it couldn't work out why I was in floods of tears all the time he was there.

If only I had known! A mere two months later, my own, darling husband was dead. Life can really be such a pregnant dog sometimes...

It is so nice we are all remembering Sarah, she was such a lovely person . Answered many a PM from me, taking advantage of her knowledge of growing & of course the famous straw. Bless her.

John and I went to Sarah's funeral and we got lost , we went round and round the York ring road several times using an off the web map that we later found out was wrong.

We arrived at the church almost an hour late, and coming out of the gate was a hearse,Ii told John to follow it.
When we got to the cemetary gates we discreetly asked the driver who it was , we had found Sarah.

I think she would have seen the funny side of it.

She had a beautiful wicker coffin and a flower display from A4A folks that had veggies in it.

Is it really five years.

Five years.....time flies when you are gardening.  I grow Jerusalem Fartichokes on the plot that Sarah sent me.  We talked about them, how she saved the smooth ones as they are so much easier to peel.  We laughed about her mulching and how she stored her squashes up her stairs.  She also taught me all I know about bottling and I have her instructions on my fridge, very faded and splattered, and I used them annually for my fruit bottling.

I remember the day she died.  Mum was staying with me, we were doing some family tree research and I heard she had leapt from this mortal coil to the next.  The mulching queen, much missed by us all.

I used to love reading Supersprout's posts while I was just a lurker. I stopped reading the forum for a while and returned to the huge thread of her passing, I felt so sorry for her friends and family.
