I grow three kinds of oca, all originally from EBay. You can have some for the cost of postage, but you may be able to strike a deal in the swap shop.

HI, Yes these are known as Oca - or for any Kiwis out there - New Zealand Yam...  They produce the small sweet potato like vegetable  :D yummy!  I would gladly pay for postage if anyone wants to send (Winecap...).  I have no idea how to grow as I have only really grown tomatoes but I'm willing to give it a go and there are plenty of hints on growing online...

Hi Kayelondon,
I know exactly what you mean. I used to grow them but I've never seen them in the UK. Funny though I thought about them the other day as my husband is on a exclusion diet too look for food intolerances and there isn't much left on the list and i need potato substitutes been giving him sweet potato but he's had Kumara and doesn't like any other sweet potato and i was think how handy yams would be.

I got 10 tiny tubers from Thompson and Morgan. They were not exactly cheap either (7 or 8 quid?)

My Oca (oxalis tuberosus) plants are really responding to all this lovely spring weather we're having. It's my first year growing them but I've read up about them so should get a crop of some sort.

Oca, New Zealand Yam, call them what you will. I have an irish mate who calls them Shamrock Potatoes (Shamrock Spuds actually) :)

This could be a new irish export to join the humble "Murphys" :)
