Title: Daffodils
Post by: Poppy Mole on February 27, 2012, 10:54:40
All my daffs seem to be very short this year (most are out or almost) is this due to lack of water? They are in the grass around my (as yet) very small fruit trees.

More likely it is the warmth of the weather. Narcissus and some other bulbs needs a certain amount of cold to lengthen the stems.

I agree - it is more likely to be "warmth" that makes the difference if they perform differently from the previous year.

We had some daffs up a couple of weeks or more ago in my parents old place a mile away. Here, in their new bungalow, the front garden is not so sunny and the flower buds are only just emerging - shorter too.

Planting depth, as well as variety, of new bulbs may also cause height variations.  ;)
