I have only had disasters with any brand of peat free compost that I have used. The majority of Lidls and Aldi's stuff is ok.

I was in Lidl's yesterday (for their excellent Primadonna olive oil, not gardening stuff, since you ask). They had loads of fruit trees and roses. From experience, I can recommend the cold frame, which will last several seasons with care. It's not that cheap this year, though, at £25.
I shall be buying plant pots, bark chips, and maybe the spiral plant supports, which are excellent for tomatoes. We bought some spirals in France last year, even cheaper than the Lidl ones, but £2 isn't a bad price, provided they're solid enough. I'm a bit suspicious of the two piece construction, but I'll have a look.
Their shears are OK for something to leave in the shed at the lottie.
I've never found anything that I've bought at Lidl actually to be bad value, just sometimes "you get what you pay for". ;D

We've just started buying food at Llidl and most of it is ok, we certainly save loads of dosh compared to similar purchases from the other well known chains.
I must pay more attention next time we go, I've not really looked at anything else.
Having said that we did see a recent offer for a bread maker on their website, our daughter picked one up for us and it is brilliant! What we particularly like is the long shape of the internal bin, it makes a huge loaf.
I will be buying ....
