The above link is interesting. Aparently the fruit that is on the tree when bought has been sprayed with a chemical which keeps the fruit looking good for display purposes. Someone mentions phoning Aldi and being told this. It is best to remove the initial fruit and discard but the next seasons fruit is okay.
Some have also said they will change the compost.

Citrus fruit trees seem very susceptible to attack from scale insect in my experience.
I wonder if the growers are using a systemic insecticide not approved for edible plants?
Thank you for the replies .I will keep the fruit on this yeas as ornamental there are 8 large lemons looking pretty good. I will then change the compost and feed as directed and hopefully next year will be able to make lemon curd mmmmmm :P
all the fruit trees ive bought from aldi said the same also the soft fruit trees which had no fruit on them some one said was to warn people against trying to eat the wood lol
Oh, some folk might like wood though ;D ;D ;D
Some of my orchids have come with 'not edible' warnings. As if I was about to put them in the pot!
