It is quite widespread here to Ruud.  Look after yourself, drink plenty of fluids and rest and keep comfortable.  Hope you feel better soon.  busy_lizzie

Wonderful being 'of that age' where you get free 'immunisation'.

Hi

This is gardening related I suppose....

My stepfather, a Yorkshireman, had a wonderful remedy for bad colds/flu...he inflicted it upon himself each time he picked up a cold and coerced me into trying it once...once was enough.

Cayenne pepper.... put it in a bowl of hot water (as hot as you can stand it) and soak your feet in it (don't laugh) ... keep topping it up with hot water for about half an hour.

The next stage is to put yourself to bed.

It is not long afterwards that you start to sweat...and I mean sweat!

His theory was that the hot pepper draws the cold out of your body via the feet.

The time I tried it I awoke ...very drained...minus cold... ravenously hungry

Funny I have never plucked up the courage to try it again.. but it worked

Cheers
Derek

My nan swears by rubbing vicks vapour rub on her feet at the first sign of a cold and is sure it has a similar effect as your pepper soak Derek.

Hope you get better soon Ruud!

If you cough in the night, or have trouble sleeping cos of a blocked nose,  there are a couple of other essential oils that can help soothe the throat, and help make breathing easier. Eucalyptus, as already mentioned by Oz is one for stuffiness, Lavender is also great for stuffiiness and throat soothing. Peppermint is good for soothing and stuffiness too  :)

I've had it too.  The worst I've been for a long time, I don't usually get ill.  One full day in bed, another half day, and my sinuses were so clogged I felt like I had two wooden stakes shoved up my nose yuck.

Hope you're feeling better now Ruud.

I hate that stage when you're too ill to go out, and too well to stay in. It drives me mad and whichever I do is wrong.  :-\ I normally go out into the garden or lottie much too soon and overdo it.

Hope you're properly recovered soon.  Real cold weather coming in over the weekend so wrap up warm and make sure you're wearing a wooly vest if you go out in that!!

Take care.

Hope you are all feeling better, My sister in law left today and spent 10 days with us coughing and spluttering everywhere, and yes she has left something behind, I have a scritchy throat and feel knackered! Oh well, off to the hot bath, lemon n honey with ginger, and my essential oils! ;D
Oh and Derek, they sday if you rub the soles of your feet with garlic, after a certain period of time (can't remember how long, and I am not going to try it!!!) your breath smells of the garlic!  :-\  DP
