Title: They shouldn't be flowering now
Post by: Squash64 on January 10, 2012, 13:33:11
The weather has been so mild this winter that plants we don't expect to flower at this time of year are confused and think it's summer.

I took these two photos this morning.

We have not really had frost at all! I still have nasturtiums on the garden! and the herbs etc have hardly died back at all, apart from the very obvious ones. Unfortunately it means that most weeds have not died off correctly :(

I have achillia in flower and my Euphorbia's are about to flower now about 2 months early. My Rose 'Pink Perpetue' hasn't stopped flowering yet.

My roses have been killed off - at least, the flowers have - by the latest frost, but they'd been blooming up till then. Couve cronchuda is drooping, but never mind. Not long to snowdrop time!

Snowdrops are through but no real droopy heads yet. One scilla ahead of the rest otherwise a nice crop of hellibores and I've been on a rose pruning mission so that stopped their game...

I cut my roses back hard after flowering last year, so all I'm going to do now is take the terminal buds off to encourage branching. Snowdrops are starting to show colour and the hellebores are in full bloom, but those are plants which ought to be flowing!
