when should i start seeing green above the compost

i sowed them in a tray watered them and covered them with a clear lid they were then put in the green house untill 2 days ago when i bought them in the house as it was abit chilly out there ive not watered them since as the compost is still damp now am i being too impatient

I find leeks and onions can be slow, sometimes I've chucked them out, sown more then found the first lot growing in the spent compost bucket!

It is only 8 days... onions seem to take anywhere from 2 - 4 weeks.. give them a chance and they will come up... You will find seed dates are a guide only and can be 10 years out of date and still be ok... but not guaranteed!!!

I sowed my onion seed on 29th December, and put them on a north facing kitchen windowsill.
Today the first ones are emerging.

Warm them up a bit. Mine took about 4 days to come through although it was fresh seed. I had them in an electric propagator in the living room. Not all are through yet but now I've put a lidl work light over the top and taken them out of the bottom heat. The rest will take their luck in the corner of the living room. By next week they'll be out in the conservatory where it is very cool indeed. But still with the light. This a new game for me too but I hope they'll come right :)
