Yayyyy the start of a new year brings tomato sowing time a little bit closer.
I'm wondering if anyone fancies a virtual tomato swap for January? I've been rummaging through my seed tin and I've lots of varieties to start it off. Plus we have quite a few varieties from the last seed swap we can add in.
It will be similar to the virtual swap (with an a slight upgrade!) but as some folk may be sowing very soon, this will be start and finish January. Well that is the plan!
If you would like to take part, add your name to the thread.
Also if you don't have any tomatoes seeds to join in the swap but would like a few seeds, send me a SAE and I'll send some back (my pick).
Im in - although I hope I have enough seeds to interest others..
;D
...not that I need any more...
;D
...but count me in...
;D
Gosh I was shocked to see your name there Goodlife ;) ;D ;D ;D.
I have about 60 varieties many of which are coming up for a grow out... :-X

Are you hinting something.. ;D
From the Seed circle and virtual seed swap I have about 30 different varieties.I couldn't possibly take anymore, that would be greedy.
I this for saved seed or for unwanted pkt seed? What's the maximum age you regard as viable?
Mind you tomato seed never seems to fail- perhaps I've not got to its limit. Is it 7 years-- but I'd hate to send someone a dud pkt.... :o I'd like a few [say 6] seeds of something and can swap a few. So count me in please.
BarriedaleNick, I'm sure they will be of interest. Although I guess the swap already has enough of couple of the more popular to be shared varieties.
Counted in Goodlife
Saddad, sounds like you have a busy season ahead :)
Poolcue I'm not sure you can ever have too many tomato varieties ;D Have to say I think we had a great selection from the Seed Circle and it is going to be tough deciding what to sow this season.
Green lily, nice to have you aboard. Swap is for home saved or bought seeds. I agree tomato seeds if stored corectly remain viable for a number of years, although there is no way of knowing how old bought seeds are only that at the time of packing they have passed a germination test. So, in line with the previous swap I'd ask again for everyone "to be fair to all taking part and only swap viable seeds with a decent date. Make sure seeds are in packets, clearly labelled with variety and sow by date or when saved". I was thinking 10 seeds as a guide to a minimum amount of seeds to swap. Hope this is ok with everyone.
I've loved the last two swops but have put up more staging now due to an influx of cactii. So I'm going to give this one a miss.
Have fun!
Ohwwah, do we get to see some pictures of your cacti, pleeease ;D
Sorry for the delay, I'm still having a few computer issues and was hoping I'd be able to access my tomato list rather than re do it. Anyway list should be up and running tomorrow. Starting with BarriedaleNick as he is first on the list and then Goodlife etc. When it is your turn if you can list what you would like and what you will be sending. I can then add your seeds to the available list for others to choose from. Seeds can then be sent to me along with a SAE. Hope it makes a bit of sense but any questions please ask away.
This is still open if anyone else fancies joining in ;D
Can I join please, or has it finished?
Did I say definitely Amish Paste and Purple Ukraine plus Delicious if that's of any interest. I'm thinking of trying grafting some tomatoes this year if I have time but that shouldn't affect the seeds...I'll do Super Marmande and GD outdoors but they will be too ordinary.. ;)
Not started yet! Nearly all set ;D
You are welcome to join in elsie.
Nice toms, Green lily.
;D Thankyou ;D
Yayyy finally this is on the road, I got a bit carried away writing the list but I hope it is enjoyable for those taking part. We have about 200 varieties of tomatoes to choose from so I hope everyone will find something to delight. I've sent the Virtual Tomato swap link/list to BarriedaleNick and Goodlife as they are first and second. Not many taking part, which is a shame but hopefully now this is set up it can be run again at a later date ;D
JayB I missed this but I have loads of seeds I could share..not sure I understand the concept though. a bit dim today, do you juts want a list of stuff I can share or do you want the seeds now.. I am packing seeds for posting today anyway ..
XX Jeannine
Hi Jeannine, I've sent a pm.
jayb - ive missed this bnut have wuite a few seeds I can share. can I still join?
You certainly can ;D
BIIIIIG bundle of seeds arrived!...thank you Jayb.. :-* ;D
Back to writing my never ending up dating of tomato seeds list.. ::)
Enjoy ;D
Your lovely lot of seeds has already been added to the swap thank you :)
B'nick have been received and sent.
I forgot to say Jeannine has a parcel on the way to add to the Virtual Tomato swap ;D
Thank you ;D
I'll update the list when Jeannine's parcel arrives. Folk will have to let me know what they would like from it on a first come basis :)
Jay just to add, your parcels are on the way.John left it in the car when I sent him on errand slast week , I found them when we went out on Tuesday so got posted then..sorry. Plus there is also one with circle stuff in, so expect two.
I have ruthlessly been through my seeds and cut them down very much, my health is such that I will never be able to grow them all so have sent them off to you folks. Some may have originated there but of those ones I am sowing a few this year and sent back the balance. Dates could be anything from 2008 to last year. Mostly they are just a few in each packet but someone on the forum may want them..do what you feel is best.
I am sorry to give you work as they are not packed in 10s etc, they are just surplus seeds so may not suit the virtual swap, maybe offer them on the forum for SAE or something.
I have been cutting sown all my seeds and didn';t want to through anything out so you got all the tomatoes.I hope I haven't caused a problem for you, didn't know what else to do.
I don't want any seeds in return. I still have lots of varieties here and that is planty for me.
Good luck with your project
XX Jeannine
Seeds received - resulting in sudden panic that I know have more tomato varieties than I grew plants last year.
Jayb - top job with all of this - it seems like a lot of work so thanks muchly!!
I'd like to join in, if it's not too late ??? Though, like Jeannine, I don't quite understand how the whole concept works! I have a variety of bought seed to swap. :)
Time, no worries at all Jeannine ;D your generosity has always been a delight and I have some super treasures due to you :)
Thank you for your kind words :)
I think as long as people are interested in taking part the virtual seed swap/tomato swap should be an ongoing resource as such for the forum.

This sounds most reasonable to me ;D Just wait for next year!
Hi Schmelda, not too late at all, good to have you join :)
Everyone is taking a turn in the swap starting with the first poster and following down the list. When it is your turn I'll pm you a link to the list of seeds you can choose from. Pick whatever you would like, one variety is fine or lots if you fancy them :) Really the only requirement is you send varieties in equal quantity to those you choose although there is a help yourself freebee section too. Once you have choosen send me your seeds along with a SAE so I can return your selection to you. 'Seeds offered are done so in good faith that they are the named variety and viable seed. Most of the varieties have a minimum of at least 10 seeds or more per pack.
Sounds very exciting! I shall look forward to my shotty!
I think my seeds have made it across, have fun XX Jeannine
Oh Jeannine... :-* This greedy pants is most curious of what goodies you have managed to smuggle ..err..post over here this time.. ;) ;D
I know you mentioned that you don't want anything in return...but if you should change your mind..drop PM to 'Auntie Goodie' and she will do her best to return the favours.. :-*
Jay will tell you what arrived cos honestly I didn't keep a list. I cut my collection down by at least half and sent them over there. It is a long list so be patient with Jay.
My health is such that I will not be able to sow even a percentage of what I have so most of my seed stash is going, the tomatoes went first.
There should be something for everyone.
XX Jeannine
Whoops this went a bit off plan, sorry for the delay, apologies to those left waiting for their turn and anyone waiting to see Jeannine's selection, who sent a wonderful tomato collection to add to the pot, lots and lots of super varieties (thank you). We have also had some super new to the swap varieties which is great, so thank you to all those already taking part.
If anyone is interested in looking at the list, here's a link to available seeds in the swap https://sites.google.com/site/virtualtomatoswap/ ( still a bit work in progress). Several varieties have been and gone and some are just one portion of seeds, others several are available. I'll leave the swap open in case anyone is feeling like swapping :)
