only joking people i started some seeds that i saved from a butternut squash i grew to if they were worth keeping 4 outa 4 i sowed is growing so yes the seed is keepers
Well yes..you did give me a little 'jump' with the headline.
First though before reading your post was.. surely not :o.. and second..''what sort of growing system is in trial now?'' ::)
"only" other four months or so and we can start with squashes again.. ::) ;D
Just because the seeds germinate doesn't mean you'll get a good crop as they may not come true to their parent. You also have to wait till frosts are over before you can plant them out and they may get rather large in the mean time.
However, while it is hard to resist the urge to sow it is best to wait till there's more daylight so seedlings can photosynthesise and grow strong. Best of luck with your babies.
I understood that those 4 seeds were just germination test and not for growing.
I think Obbelix has missed the point a bit, I assume your babies will be going to be composted, you are just seeing if they are viable.
He does have a point, did you do anything to make sure they have not crossed, if not you don't know what you will get.
these were sowed only to see if they were worth keeping and there fore sacrificial the true sowing wont be started until April and hopefully :-\ there is a good chance they ll come true as i only had two plants in my green house and no one grew any near by so keeping my fingers crossed
Good Luck with them.
I tried a similar idea last year, I grew various last year on my plot, but 3 plants of one variety at home in pots, so I know they would not cross.
Unfortunately, the pot grown ones did not come to anything, but I will try again this year.
