Title: Lemon Grass
Post by: terrace max on February 13, 2005, 21:46:02
I grew a couple of lemon grass plants from seed last year, in the greenhouse. They did ok - looked pretty - but never really got to supermarket type fatness, After winter in the greenhouse they look kind of dormant...or maybe, in fact, dead...

I didn't water them much over winter (as instructed on the seed packet) but they have a couple of patches of mould on them. Any chance of a rebirth or should I chuck them and sow again?

Any views much appreciated...

If they feel kinda soft and soggy, I would bin them.  However, why grow from seed?  I bought a packed of lemon grass on the cheapo counter in Asda and planted them.  They grew like a lawn and I was harvesting fresh slim stems whenever I wanted.  It lives in a large pot in my greenhouse, completely ignored all winter and loved all summer, seems to do it no harm.

I've tried both ways and had the bad overwintering experience from seed - EJ's method is the way to go
