Title: phone problem
Post by: tomatoada on December 21, 2011, 14:43:01
I have a hearing problem and I am looking for a phone on which the volume can be increased.  Can anyone personally reccommend one.   I think it will have to be corded.   I have tried 2 cordless from Argos which were said to have a volume adjustment but they did not work for me.   Thanks for any advice.

Do you use hearing aids ?

I have a moderately severe hearing loss and use 2 and have found it better to use a phone on its built in speaker, which should be louder with or without hearing aids. Not ideal for private conversations though.

Some of the most powerful/loudest phones can be fould here http://geemarc.com/ both my mother and myself use a geemarc phone, i use a cordless one. Plenty of volume both in earpiece and speaker. Not cheap but you can shop around, others sell thme.

Many thanks for replies.
Ceres you puzzled me for a minute.   Site looks good.
P/L glad you posted. It gave me a clue to click  onto the message.
Yes I have 2 NH aids which are not very good.  When I wear them I can hear distant sounds but not near ones.  I have been back to the clinic several times.   I am thinking of trying Hidden Hearing.

My 89year old sister has  quite a severe hearing problem which makes conversation when I visit her rather difficult (she will not wear a hearing aid) but her son purchased her a telephone and I can telephone her and have a conversation with her. I will be ringing my nephew today and will ask him details. Might be another thing for you to look at.

Thanks for replies.  I am looking at them all.   So good of you all to help.
G/J.  Won't go to H/H.
Lorna Details.  Yes please.
Can anyone recommend a specific one.  I would like to increase the volume of the callers voice and slow speech down.  Can the speech be slowed down on the actual call or only on recorded messages?  I find the details a bit difficult to take in.

Now for a loud doorbell.  Any info. welcome.

As for the doorbell, do you know somebody that could rig up a flashing light in each room?
