Just seen that Dow have sponsored the Olympics to the tune of £7M.
Apparently India have objected because of their connection to Bhopal.
I object because of their connection to manure contamination.
And I object to the Olympics because of the wanton destruction of the Manor Garden allotment site.
i object the olympics because of the horrendours cots to this country in a recession, or money is far better spent on UK citizens. I dont not believe that they will bring in enough money to cover the amount that will have been soent on them neither do I think they raise the profile of a country to warrant the ridiculous amount of money spent.
OK I will quietly get off my soap box and walk away :(
There wasn't a recession looming when the UK won the Olympics and committed itelf to all the expenditure but I do agree it's a ludicrous waste of money that could be better spent providing decent sports facilities for more children and adolescents.
It is a well proven fact that sports clubs can provide a safe place, a second family and the incentive to do better to children from all, but especially, deprived backgrounds. Sports and fitness also tend to improve academic performance both from improved health and concentration as well as a desire to do better.
As for the sponsors - very dodgy having anything at all to do with the company that refuses to pay adequate compensation for the Bhopal disaster. However there's also McDonalds and Coca Cola who are both contributing to mortal levels of obesity and diabetes in both the developed and developing worlds. Wasn't the Deloitte accountancy group the one that failed to spot how exposed the Bank of Scotland was before it took over ABN Amro and plunged the British tax payer into billions of pounds of rescure funding and contributed to the global banking crisis and the current recession? The family dynasty behind BMW, and which is still a major shareholder, admits to using 50,000 slave labour workers to produce arms and ammunition for the Nazis. P&G products consume vast quantities of palm oil and though they try to say they're doing it in a sustainable way, palm oil production has led to the devastation of tropical jungles with loss of habitat and the extinction of species of both flora and fauna.
Add to that the general level of corruption within the Olympics committee and the likely levels of drug abuse by competitors and you have to wonder why any reputable person or government wants to be involved or spend a single penny on them.

Here here!!
I object to the lot of them.
Me too. I'm planning a 3 week long stint in my camper when the olympics are on. And Dow sponsoring them just rubs salt in the wound.
Wonder if I can camp at the lottie for the duration. 8)
Come up and camp on ours... we have electricity and flushing toilets! ;D
