I don't have a TV but this ad. is prominent atm when I watch 4OD on iPlayer. Begs questions from me and p'raps someone knows the answers, ie) where do the pigs come from? How were they kept before slaughter? How can everyone along the chain from the breeder through to the eventual Supermarket pay outgoings/ wages etc.etc. and still make a profit, on such a low price?
For comparison (and those who don't eat offal look away NOW!) - I buy, admittedly not pork but beef, tripe, from a reliable source and the current price = £4.90 per kilo...
I remember that Jamie Oliver exposed the horrors of intensive chicken rearing and many peeps here have 'adopted' battery laying hens, but am I the only person alarmed at what seems to me to lie behind this £3 per kilo pork?
Please, someone, tell me that I'm wrong :o
On the ASDA website, the £3/kg pork joint says this:

You'd have to read the label to determine exactly how it was reared (the website image is too fuzzy to read but I can make out the Saltire). Here is their policy on labelling pork products:

All the supermarkets seem to have amazing offers on meat in the run-up to Christmas, as part of their current price war.
The special offer price won't reflect the farm gate price.
